## Olevia Brand Book — Design Direction Session (Apr 3 afternoon)

### Work done
- Built `v4.html` — editorial hero, dark statement panel, gold stats, cinematic image, inverted mission
- Built `structure.html` — 9-section layout diagram with proportions annotated
- Built `references.html` — 4-column comparative wireframe: Oatly / Valrhona / Linear / Olevia proposed
- Built `components.html` — 5-section component design patterns: Typography, Logo, Colour, Photography, Mockups

### All files on `staging` branch → staging.curiousendeavor.com
- v4: `staging.curiousendeavor.com/projects/Olevia/Brandbook/v4.html`
- structure: `staging.curiousendeavor.com/projects/Olevia/Brandbook/structure.html`
- references: `staging.curiousendeavor.com/projects/Olevia/Brandbook/references.html`
- components: `staging.curiousendeavor.com/projects/Olevia/Brandbook/components.html`

### Key design decisions captured
- **Typography:** Specimen hero on dark bg → scale table → 3-font live pairing (Larken + Inter + JetBrains Mono)
- **Logo:** Hero on Egg bg (not white) → 5-swatch background strip → clear space → do/don'ts → downloads
- **Colour:** Proportional hierarchy strip (width = usage frequency) → inline usage rules per colour
- **Photography:** Mood collage opener → Do/Don't side-by-side pairs → 4 rule columns
- **Mockups:** 2×2 B2B contexts (packaging, presentations, trade, digital) — not generic device frames

### Reference brands studied
- Oatly: manifesto-first, binary brand personality, do/don't voice format
- Valrhona: dark cinematic hero, editorial pacing, warm data approach, dark authority
- Linear: left-aligned hero, mono type as graphic element, systematic grid

### Pending
- Assaf to give feedback on components.html — which approaches he wants per section
- Then build v5 from approved patterns

## Mission Mode — Assaf's Personal Project (Apr 3 afternoon/evening)

### What it is
Mission Mode — a physical card deck product that gives kids real-world missions in any environment (airports, museums, home, outdoors). Core premise: every environment has a system, kids can learn it if given a role. Not a travel product — a universal independence tool for ages 6–12.

### Work done this session

**Deck/structure review:**
- Reviewed Assaf's original Google Slides deck (18 slides) + Tal's rewrite ("FINAL COPY READY TO DESIGN", 21 slides)
- Critique: Tal's version removed all the soul — founder story (Léo/Daphné airport), science (SDT theory, CBT study), age tiers, "Watch this" moment
- Recommended synthesis: Tal's bullet discipline + Assaf's story, science, product detail

**Landing page structure (webpage format):**
- Built 9-section landing page structure treating it like a webpage not a deck
- Key sections: Hero → Founder moment → Problem (no stats, a feeling) → Insight → Product reveal → How it works → Proof → Why now → System → Partners → CTA
- Travel demoted: one row in a table, not the frame for everything

**HTML landing page built:**
- Live at: `https://www.curiousendeavor.com/mission-mode.html`
- File: `public/mission-mode.html`
- CE styleguide applied. Full responsive.

**Animal character research:**
- Brief: independent from parents very early, deals with world quickly
- Key candidates: Sea turtle (100% independent, navigates ocean alone), Red fox (mother force-disperses cubs at 6 months — independence is engineered), Wolverine (solitary from birth, vast territory), Octopus (mother dies at hatching, entirely self-taught), Wandering albatross fledgling (abandoned on nest, self-teaches flight + navigation)
- Assaf likes: fox or otter
- Recommendation: fox fits the forced-independence brief AND has character design potential

**Illustration style research (two rounds):**

Round 1 (rejected — not brief-aligned):
- Jack Taylor (ligne claire/urban skate), Blexbolex, WPA posters, Charley Harper
- Assaf said: "not at all aligned, find something with real reasoning"

Round 2 (brief-aligned, approved direction):
- Live at: `https://www.curiousendeavor.com/mission-refs/`
- File: `public/mission-refs/index.html`
- **Hilda + Twig** (Luke Pearson/Flying Eye): closest existing parallel — kid + deerfox as peers, clean bold graphic line, parent-facing
- **Richard Scarry/Busytown**: intellectual DNA — world has systems, every environment is learnable
- **Shaun Tan / The Arrival**: emotional register — small figure navigating enormous incomprehensible world
- **Ernest & Célestine**: warmth standard — peer relationship conveyed without words, cover text, feel the trust
- **Field guide format**: card format logic — annotated, systematic, teaches before you walk in

**Illustration styles research board (earlier, rejected):**
- Live at: `https://www.curiousendeavor.com/mission-mode-styles.html`
- CSS-built visual demos of 10 styles (Ligne Claire, Risograph, Charley Harper, Mignola, OTGW, Scout Badge, Woodblock, MCM, Watterson, Blexbolex)

### Key decisions / synthesis brief
- **Visual brief:** "A field guide card format, drawn with picture-book warmth, showing a small kid and an animal navigating a large real-world environment together — as peers, not as guide and follower."
- **Character model:** Calvin & Hobbes relationship logic. Tintin/Hergé execution style.
- **Animal:** Fox (mother engineers independence — maps to product premise exactly)
- **Card format:** Each mission card = field guide entry for one environment. Labels what to look for.
- **Not a travel product.** Travel is origin story only. Works in any environment.

### Files created
- `work/pitches/mission-mode/index.html` — landing page source
- `work/pitches/mission-mode/style-research.html` — styles board source
- `work/pitches/mission-mode/style-refs/` — downloaded reference images
- `public/mission-mode.html` — live landing page
- `public/mission-mode-styles.html` — live styles board
- `public/mission-refs/index.html` — live reference board

### Pending
- Assaf to react to reference board v2
- Next step: brief an illustrator using this board (fox + child, three test cards, three environments)
- Landing page copy needs work (Assaf's note: "copy needs work")
