# Mission: Context Setting Slides
*Following Brand Strategy Framework*

## Slide 5: Market Context

**Headline:** Kids live in an adult world. Nobody's translating it for them.

**Body:**
Think about a child's day:

- Grocery store — follow, don't touch, wait
- Doctor's office — sit still, be patient
- Dinner party — be quiet, don't interrupt
- Museum — look, don't run, stay close

Every situation has rules designed for adults.
Kids are expected to comply. Not participate.

The result? Boredom. Frustration. Meltdowns.
Not because kids are bad. Because they have no role.

**The gap:** There's no product that gives kids a way IN to adult situations.

---

## Slide 6: Human Context

**Headline:** Kids don't resist tasks. They resist feeling powerless.

**Body:**
Ask any parent:

> "My kid will spend an hour building LEGO but won't sit still for 5 minutes at dinner."

Why? Because LEGO gives them:
- A goal
- Control
- Progress they can see

Adult situations give them nothing.

**The insight:**
Kids aren't difficult. They're under-equipped.
Give them a mission, and they transform.

*"Find our gate before me"* beats *"Stay close"* every time.

## Slide 7: Historical Context (The Science)

**Headline:** Harvard studied this for 85 years. Agency changes everything.

**Body:**
The Harvard Grant Study — 85+ years of longitudinal research — found:

> **"Children who perform tasks develop higher self-esteem, better responsibility, and greater empathy."**

Early agency is a **"strong predictor"** of later success.

Why? Tasks give kids:
- **Autonomy** — I have control
- **Purpose** — I'm needed
- **Competence** — I can do this
- **Belonging** — I'm part of this

The OECD calls it essential:
> "Agency enables children to act with a sense of purpose, which guides them to flourish."

Mission isn't entertainment. It's developmental infrastructure.

## Slide 8: Temporal Context

**Headline:** Why now?

**Body:**
Three forces converging:

**1. Screen guilt is at all-time high**
Parents know iPads are a truce, not a solution.
The "device-free childhood" movement is exploding.

**2. "Kidfluence" is real**
Kids expect to participate. They influence family decisions.
Being a passenger doesn't cut it anymore.

**3. No tool exists for this**
Activity books are passive. Screens are addictive. Toys don't fit situations.
Nothing translates the adult world into kid-sized missions.

Mission fills a gap nobody else is addressing.

## The Core Reframe

| What Mission IS | What Mission ISN'T |
|-----------------|-------------------|
| A translation layer for the adult world | A travel product |
| Agency infrastructure for kids | Entertainment / distraction |
| A way to participate | A way to be pacified |
| Applicable anywhere (store, doctor, dinner, museum) | Limited to one situation |

**The insight:** The airport cards were an example. The principle is universal.

---

## Example Applications

| Situation | Adult Expectation | Mission Translation |
|-----------|-------------------|---------------------|
| Grocery store | Follow me, don't wander | "Find 3 items that are red" |
| Doctor's waiting room | Sit still | "Count how many people are wearing glasses" |
| Adult dinner party | Be quiet | "Learn one fact about each grown-up" |
| Museum | Don't run, look at art | "Find a painting with an animal hiding in it" |
| Restaurant | Wait for food | "Rate this restaurant 1-5 stars and tell me why" |
| Moving house | Stay out of the way | "You're in charge of labeling boxes for your room" |

**Same principle. Infinite applications.**

## Notes

- Remove all travel-specific framing from deck
- Lead with "translation" concept
- Airport = proof of concept, not the product definition
