## 1. Positioning & Messaging

**Core tagline:** "Software for Better Coffee"
**Mission:** To drive quality, productivity and sustainability excellence across the coffee value chain with accessible technology.
**Vision:** Power the coffee industry's transition into a fairer, more economically sustainable and environmentally responsible model for everyone.

**Positioning pillars (from homepage):**
- **Trusted** — "Market-leading SaaS solution throughout the coffee supply chain. You're in safe hands."
- **Flexible** — "Adapts to the way you work in order to streamline your workflows."
- **Transparent** — "Fair and transparent pricing with no hidden fees or add-ons. Cancel anytime."
- **Supported** — "Dedicated team of support agents ready to help."

**Tone of voice:** Warm, approachable, functional. Not corporate. Leans into community and craft language — "coffee professionals," "exceptional coffee," "the way you work." Avoids jargon. Subtly idealistic (sustainability, fairness, B-Corp).

**Target audience:** Everyone in the coffee supply chain — farmers (Origin), roasters (Roast), café operators (Cafe), and traders/importers (Commerce). Positioned as vertical SaaS for the entire coffee value chain, not just one segment.

**Competitive claim:** Market leader. Used in 100+ countries. Integrations with Starbucks, Blue Bottle, Five Elephant, Verve, Bunista, Wonderstate.

## 2. Product Suite

| Product | What It Does | Target User |
|---------|-------------|-------------|
| **Cropster Roast** | Roast profiling, real-time data, RI5 system, scheduling, inventory, cupping | Specialty & commercial roasters |
| **Cropster Cafe** | Business intelligence, waste tracking, IoT BrewBeacon hardware, quality control at scale | Café chains & multi-location operators |
| **Cropster Origin** | Green inventory, sample tracking, lot management, cherry-to-customer traceability | Coffee farms, exporters, green traders |
| **Cropster Commerce** | Fulfillment solution for the coffee trade | Importers, exporters, B2B coffee sales |
| **Cup / SLiC / Lab** | Cupping forms, QR sample labels, green grading — bundled free or add-on | QC across all segments |

**Notable product moment:** RI5 (Roasting Intelligence 5) launched Feb 2024 — flagship roasting system update. IoT hardware (BrewBeacon) for espresso machines shows hardware-software integration ambition.

**Recent M&A:** Cropster acquired **Firescope** (a competing roast profiling platform, South Korean origin) — announced on homepage blog.

**Pricing model:** Volume-based SaaS. Monthly billing. Cancel anytime. No hidden fees (this is a conscious brand message — trust signal).

## 4. Brand Refresh (June 2024)

**Occasion:** 15th anniversary + World of Coffee Copenhagen (June 27–29, 2024)

**What changed:**
- Updated logo (refinement, not overhaul)
- Refreshed color palette — signature green maintained, individual product highlight colors introduced
- New typography
- New marketing slogans
- New illustrated characters — cartoonish brand mascots/figures
- New "Cropster green line" — illustrated graphic element
- New website launched simultaneously

**What stayed:**
- Signature green: **#80B947** ("Sushi" — confirmed brand color)
- Core brand identity and positioning

**Event presence:** Copenhagen booth was built entirely of cartoon illustrations to celebrate B-Corp certification. VR experience of coffee value chain at SCA Expo Chicago 2024 (partnered with MAV Coffee, Algrano, Syra Coffee).

**Quote (Emily Jackson, Senior Brand Designer):**
> "A brand refresh involves minor updates to modernise, such as tweaking your logo, colour palette, and marketing slogans, while still retaining core brand elements… Updating your brand shows customers you are evolving alongside their needs and staying ahead of the competition."

## 5. Visual Identity (Tatiana's Assessment)

### Colors
| Role | Value | Notes |
|------|-------|-------|
| **Primary / Signature** | `#80B947` — "Sushi" green | Core brand color, maintained across refresh |
| **Background** | Clean white / light neutral | Product UI uses white + green |
| **Dark** | Deep charcoal/near-black | Typography + UI chrome |
| **Product highlights** | Various (newly introduced 2024) | Each product gets its own accent |

### Typography
- Modern sans-serif stack — functional, clean, tech-adjacent
- Not a quirky editorial typeface — workhorse type that communicates reliability
- Specific fonts not confirmed from site scrape; needs visual inspection

### Imagery Style
- **Photography:** Coffee craft imagery — beans, roasters, café environments, hands-on process shots. Warm, high-quality, artisan feel.
- **Illustration:** New in 2024 refresh — cartoon characters and brand mascots. Playful, distinctive, unusual for B2B SaaS.
- **Product UI shots:** Dashboard screenshots, data visualization — functional, clean
- **Event imagery:** Conference booths, championships, team photos

### Design Feeling
**Adjectives:** Warm, green-forward, craft-meets-data, accessible, mission-driven, quietly confident
**Mood:** "B-Corp SaaS that actually cares about coffee" — not Silicon Valley cold, not lifestyle brand hot. A specific niche: ethical B2B tech for artisans.
**Weakness:** Website feels product-feature-led rather than brand-led. Navigation is functional, not inspiring. The illustration direction (introduced 2024) is interesting but feels under-deployed — not yet a coherent visual language.

### Logo
Green wordmark. Clean, sans-serif. Recent minor refinement. Not distinctive enough as a standalone mark — relies on the green color for recognition.

## 6. Social Presence

| Platform | Status | Notes |
|----------|--------|-------|
| **Instagram** | Active | Linked from YouTube + website. Content: behind-the-scenes roasting, recipes, community |
| **LinkedIn** | Active | Professional presence confirmed; B2B content, product announcements |
| **YouTube** | Active | Product videos, tutorials, event content |
| **Twitter/X** | Unclear | Not prominently featured |

**Content tone:** Educational and community-oriented. Recipe tips, workflow guides, customer stories, product announcements. Sprudge (top coffee media) regularly features and links Cropster — strong earned media in the specialty coffee world.

---

## 7. Press & Industry

**Key media:** Sprudge, Perfect Daily Grind, GCR Magazine, World Coffee Portal, Roast Magazine
**Coverage themes:** B-Corp story, software features, industry partnerships, sustainability

**Notable moments:**
- October 2024: Verdane majority acquisition (biggest news of the year — growth capital entering)
- June 2024: World of Coffee Copenhagen brand launch
- March 2024: SCA Expo Chicago — VR experience, panel "Actionable Impact"
- Feb 2024: Roasting Intelligence 5 (RI5) launch
- January 2024: Cropster Commerce launch
- Firescope acquisition (timing: recent, on homepage)

**Notable partners/customers:** Starbucks, Blue Bottle Coffee, Five Elephant, Bunista, Verve Coffee Roasters, Wonderstate Coffee (Roast Magazine's 2025 Roaster of the Year — macro category)

**Community standing:** Deeply embedded in specialty coffee world. Seen as the professional standard. Not a challenger — the incumbent.

---

## 8. Competitive Landscape

| Competitor | Type | Positioning |
|-----------|------|-------------|
| **Artisan** | Free/open-source | Home roasters, hobbyists, budget-conscious small operations |
| **Typica** | Free/open-source | Small-to-medium specialty roasters |
| **RoastLog** | Commercial SaaS | Direct Cropster alternative — simpler, cheaper |
| **Firescope** | Commercial (acquired by Cropster 2024) | Korean-origin profiling software |
| **RoasterTools / RoastPath** | Niche SaaS | Smaller, less feature-complete |

**Cropster's moat:** Full supply-chain coverage (farm → roastery → café → commerce). No competitor covers the whole chain. Artisan/Typica compete only on roast profiling. Cropster owns the data layer across the entire coffee business.

---

## 9. Strategic Brand Assessment

**Strengths:**
- Market leader with genuine domain authority — 15+ years, 100+ countries
- B-Corp certification is a powerful differentiator in a values-driven industry
- Verdane investment gives growth runway and credibility
- Recent brand refresh shows self-awareness about brand modernization
- The "entire value chain" story is unmatched

**Weaknesses:**
- Website is functional, not aspirational — underserves the brand's actual ambition
- Illustration direction (2024) is interesting but inconsistent — not yet ownable
- No visible content/editorial brand presence (no podcast, no thought leadership hub)
- Social presence feels like product marketing, not brand building
- Pricing complexity (volume-based) is a UX friction point

**Opportunities for CE:**
- Help Cropster evolve from "useful software" to **"the intelligence layer of the coffee world"**
- The Verdane investment moment is the right trigger to step up brand ambition
- B-Corp + sustainability narrative is underdeveloped — huge story hiding in plain sight
- The illustration system could become something truly distinctive with creative direction
- Position Cropster as a **category creator** (coffee intelligence platform) not just SaaS vendor
